Midea Smart 600 GPD / 800 GPD – A Modern Tankless Reverse Osmosis System

Modern reverse osmosis systems are increasingly moving away from the traditional design based on several separate filter housings and a pressurized storage tank. A good example is the Midea Smart 600 GPD / 800 GPD – a compact RO system enclosed in a modern cabinet and designed for residential or office use.

One of the main differences compared with conventional RO systems is its tankless design, high production capacity, and the ability to monitor the system through a dedicated mobile application.

According to the product specification, the 600 GPD version produces approximately 94 liters per hour, while the 800 GPD version reaches approximately 126 liters per hour.

Tankless Design

Traditional reverse osmosis systems usually store purified water in a pressurized storage tank.

The Midea system uses a tankless configuration, which means there is no separate water storage tank under the sink.

This provides several practical advantages:

  • more usable cabinet space,
  • fewer separate installation components,
  • a cleaner and more organized appearance,
  • water produced on demand,
  • no large pressure tank occupying space under the sink.

From the user’s point of view, this means greater convenience. From the installer’s perspective, it changes the way the installation space is planned compared with a conventional RO system.

600 GPD or 800 GPD?

The system is available in two versions:

Midea Smart 600 GPD – approximately 94 l/h

and

Midea Smart 800 GPD – approximately 126 l/h.

The higher-capacity model may be useful where filtered water is used more frequently or where a higher instantaneous flow rate is expected.

However, this does not mean that the larger model is always the better choice. As with other water treatment systems, the unit should be selected according to actual water demand.

Three Filter Elements Inside One Cabinet

According to the product specification, the system uses:

1 × PCB filter and 2 × RO membrane elements.

The supplied photographs clearly show side access to the three replaceable filtration elements. This is an interesting service feature: the filters are hidden inside the compact cabinet, while still remaining accessible without dismantling the entire unit.

The manufacturer also specifies a push-in cartridge installation system, designed to simplify filter replacement.

How Often Should the Filters Be Replaced?

The product specification gives the following approximate service intervals:

  • filter cartridge: 6–12 months / approximately 3,600 liters,
  • RO membranes: 12–24 months / approximately 7,200 liters.

In practice, actual filter life will also depend on incoming water quality and the amount of water used.

For this reason, the installation date alone should not be the only factor considered when planning service.

Midea Smart – Monitoring Through a Mobile App

One of the most interesting features of this system is the built-in Wi-Fi module and dedicated mobile application.

According to the product information, the app can provide functions such as:

  • monitoring system parameters,
  • checking filter usage,
  • filter replacement reminders,
  • monitoring water parameters,
  • remote access to information about the unit.

One of the supplied images also shows the Midea Smart application displaying the condition of the individual filter elements.

For the user, this makes system monitoring easier. From a service perspective, it can also help with better planning of cartridge replacement.

Smart Faucet on the 800 GPD Version

The 800 GPD Smart version can be supplied with a dedicated electronic faucet.

The manufacturer’s materials indicate functions associated with Wi-Fi connectivity, water parameters, filter usage, and replacement reminders.

This is a significant difference compared with a conventional RO faucet, which normally performs only a mechanical water-dispensing function.

Horizontal Installation Option

An interesting feature of the unit is that it can also operate in a horizontal position.

The manufacturer specifically lists this capability in the technical data.

This can be particularly useful in kitchen cabinets where vertical clearance is limited but more horizontal space is available.

From an installer’s point of view, this provides greater flexibility when planning the installation.

Leak Protection Sensor

The system is also equipped with a leak protection sensor.

This is especially useful for equipment installed under a kitchen sink or inside cabinetry, where a small leak could otherwise remain unnoticed for some time.

Installation Parameters

The technical specification includes the following information:

  • inlet pressure: 1–6.9 bar,
  • quick-connect fittings: 1/4" QC,
  • power supply: 100–240 V~,
  • maximum power consumption during filtration: 80 W,
  • unit weight: 12.1 kg,
  • installation kit included.

This shows that before installation, the installer should check not only the available space but also the incoming water pressure and access to a suitable electrical outlet.

Filtration Accuracy

The product specification states a filtration accuracy of 0.0001 μm and indicates the reduction of very small contaminants, including microorganisms.

In practice, the overall quality of the treated water will also depend on the incoming water quality, the condition of the filter elements, and regular maintenance of the system.

Who Is the Midea Smart System For?

This type of system may be a good option for users who:

  • want to avoid a pressurized storage tank,
  • have limited space under the sink,
  • require high water production capacity,
  • prefer a modern and compact design,
  • want to monitor filter status through a mobile app,
  • prefer an integrated system instead of a traditional multi-housing RO installation.

This does not mean that a traditional RO system with a storage tank is inferior.

They are simply two different approaches to reverse osmosis system design.

From the Installer’s Point of View

One of the most interesting aspects of systems like this is how much RO equipment design has changed.

A conventional reverse osmosis filter consists of several visible housings, tubing, a membrane housing, and a separate storage tank. In the Midea Smart system, most of these components are enclosed within one compact cabinet.

This can create a very clean and modern installation, but one basic rule still remains:

even the most modern filtration system should be installed in a way that allows safe and convenient servicing in the future.

Summary

The Midea Smart 600 GPD / 800 GPD represents a new generation of residential reverse osmosis systems: high-capacity, tankless, and integrated with smart technology.

Its main features include:

  • high production capacity,
  • tankless design,
  • compact cabinet,
  • horizontal installation option,
  • Wi-Fi and mobile app,
  • filter usage monitoring,
  • leak protection sensor,
  • convenient access to replaceable filter elements.

It is a good example of how traditional reverse osmosis technology is now being combined with Smart Home solutions.
