Surface waters and shallow groundwater are biologically contaminated. They may contain viruses, bacteria and their spore forms and parasites. They can be disinfected with UV rays. The purpose of disinfection of water is to destroy the aforementioned biological contaminants and prevent them from secondary development in the water supply network.
Water disinfection with UV rays avoids the introduction of chemicals into the water, does not alter its physico-chemical composition, taste and odor.
Ultraviolet radiation is electromagnetic radiation.
The UV lamp consists of a chamber through which the water flows and a radiant or radiant emitting radiator assembly inside it.
